The Project

The project “Social integration, Youth Employment and Poverty Reduction – Skills on Demand” promotes the employment of vulnerable residents of the City of Athens through a holistic program that develops awareness, training and certification. The program also offers individualized psychosocial and professional support as well as job placement services. The main objective of the project is for recently unemployed people to find employment. 

The project is being implemented in the framework of the program “Local Development and Poverty Reduction” of the European Economic Area (EEA Grants), by the Athens Development & Destination Management Agency S.A.

 

PROJECT OBJECTIVES

The main objectives of the project are:

  1. empower beneficiaries to re-enter the job market
  2. the systematic recognition and coverage of the needs of the local labour market, and
  3. the overall enhancement of the capacity of the City of Athens to empower and support vulnerable groups through employment, while aiming:
  • to recognize the needs of companies in terms of job positions and the skills of personnel operating locally.
  • to develop training programs that meet the needs of companies and make them available to beneficiaries through an online platform.
  • to provide individualized professional counselling and psychosocial support to beneficiaries/individuals belonging to vulnerable social groups.
  • to connect beneficiaries with the needs of companies and to actively support their employment
  • to support companies with consulting services for the preservation of job positions and to create an active network between the participating companies

 

IMPLEMENTATION PLAN

The project will include the following main activities:
  • the evaluation of the needs of the labour market as well as the certification of beneficiaries will help to expand the availability of skills that are currently missing from the labour market
  • cooperate and communicate to establish a network of local businesses with identified needs
  • identify the vulnerable and unemployed residents of the City of Athens that will benefit from the services. The beneficiaries will be selected using transparent procedures and without discrimination
  • the provision of certification courses as well as psychosocial and employment support to vulnerable unemployed people. The design of the methodology, the development of the training curriculum, as well as the delivery of the training activities will be assigned to selected academic, educational, and training agencies that present meaningful experience in the field.
  • develop an information platform to monitor the activities and impacts of the project, and maintain the long-term sustainability of the platform in order to preserve and evaluate the results of the project after it is completed.
  • facilitate the matching of trained and certified unemployed people with businesses.

The “Local Development and Poverty Reduction” programme in Greece with a total budget of 6.5 million euros is financed by the European Economic Area (EEA Grants) 2014 – 2021. The program aims to contribute to the enhancement of social cohesion and the reduction of economic and social inequalities.
