Athens Film Office holds discussion on the "Declaration of Filmmakers"

The City of Athens Film Office recently held a meeting in the Greek capital for audiovisual industry professionals from Greece, Italy, France and Cyprus to discuss and promote the signing of the "Declaration of Filmmakers" (Declaration des Cineastes) for the protection of their rights and work.

Launched by French creators at the Cannes Film Festival in May, the Declaration aims to protect the intellectual property rights of filmmakers, ensure the fair distribution of revenues and address the impact of artificial intelligence on the audiovisual sector. The Declaration was also presented and signed in September and October at meetings in Venice and San Sebastian, which coincided with the strike of Hollywood screenwriters, directors, and actors.

The Athens meeting, which was held with the support of the EKOME - National Centre of Audiovisual Media and Communication and the Greek Film Centre (GFC) gathered representatives of European and national associations of directors, filmmakers, writers and film centers who agreed to further support and promote the signing of the Filmmakers’ Declaration.

Participants also included Culture Deputy Minister Christos Dimas, EKOME President and CEO Leonidas Christopoulos, Athens Film Officer Stathis Kalogeropoulos, Greek Film Center (GFC) President Marcos Holevas and GFC Managing Director Athina Kartalou.
