Athens is Europe’s Leading Cultural City Destination for 2023
Athens has been named Europe’s Leading Cultural City Destination 2023 at the World Travel Awards!
The news was announced during the WTA Europe Gala Ceremony 2023 that was held in Batumi, Georgia, on September 29, in the presence of senior tourism executives from all over Europe.
Hailed as the “Oscars of the travel industry” the World Travel Awards acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the tourism industry.
Athens’ recognition as Europe’s Leading Cultural City Destination coincides with the completion of significant cultural projects in the Greek capital including the revamp and reopening of the iconic Lycabettus Municipal Theater. In addition, the award highlights the city’s efforts to promote its cultural heritage through festivals, cultural activities and events such as the month-long 2nd Athens City Festival that took place in the center and the city’s neighborhoods in May.
