First Shanghai - Athens direct flight takes off

Athens recently welcomed Juneyao Airlines’ first direct flight from Shanghai. The new service launched on April 2, and will be conducted three times a week.

ADDMA CEO Ioannis Georgizas traveled to Shanghai last week to participate in a press conference for the launch of the new direct air service and the promotion of Athens as a top tourism destination to the Chinese market. "We expect this direct connection to strengthen tourism ties between our cities, promote our shared values and enhance cultural exchange,” he said.

During the trip, the team of This is Athens-Convention & Visitors Bureau held a number of B2B meetings and presented Athens to selected travel agents from China.

A special event for the launch of the Athens - Shanghai direct route was also held in Athens on April 2, in the presence of Athens Mayor Haris Doukas, ADDMA President Giorgos Stamtsis and CEO Ioannis Georgizas. Organized by Juneyao Airlines, the Athens International Airport (AIA) and My Odyssey Travel, the event also included speeches by Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni, SETE President and AIA CEO Ioannis Paraschis and the Ambassador of China to Greece, Xiao Junzheng.
