Semi-final of the International Emmy Awards Comes to Athens

Semi-final of the International Emmy Awards Comes to Athens

The organization leading the International Emmy Awards selected Athens to host a Semi-Final Judging event, a crucial step leading to the globally recognized television awards.

The Athens Film Office of the City of Athens and NOVA coordinated the events that were overseen by members of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

In a series of closed screenings, the two Greek juries voted in the categories of Best Actor and Best Actress in a television series. In accordance with the regulations of the Academy, each jury was composed of professionals from the fields of television and film, artistic production, and the creative industry, and chosen according to the strict criteria of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

A glamorous gala for the International Emmy Awards was held after the juries completed their work. The event gathered some of the brightest names in Greek entertainment, the arts, and representatives of the international film and television industry.

The judges selected one of the nominees in each category, but their choice will be kept secret until the official ceremony of the International Emmy Awards to be held on November 20 in New York City.

Every summer, from June to September, the International Emmy Awards travels to over 25 judging sites for Semi-Final Judging events. Semi-Final rounds determine the International Emmy Award Nominees for the year.

They are not only a crucial step in the judging process, they are also a great networking opportunity for the Host and the Jurors invited to participate in the competition.

In recent years, thanks to the creation of the Athens Film Office of the City of Athens in April 2020, Athens has been consolidating its position at the heart of film production. More than 100 audiovisual productions have chosen Athens for their filming, creating multiple benefits for the local economy and the city's businesses.

The Mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis, said in a statement: "Thanks to the successful course of the Athens Film Office, founded by the City of Athens in April 2020, Athens has developed a huge potential for hosting major film and television productions. The decision by the International Academy to hold the semi-final of the International Emmy Awards in our city is proof of our strengthened position on the world cinema map. I am very happy that in collaboration with NOVA we hosted this great event, which will certainly not be the last!"
