This is Athens Agora: Athens to Host Major Tourism Industry Event in April
Athens will host some of the most prominent figures of the international tourism industry for “This is Athens – Agora”. The premier annual B2B tourism meeting, organized by the City of Athens through Develop Athens’ Convention and Visitors Bureau (This is Athens - CVB), will be hosted from April 7-8 at the iconic Aigli Zappeion venue.
Athens Mayor Haris Doukas states: “’This is Athens – Agora’ aims to reposition Athens on the global tourism map as a destination with a contemporary vision. In this new era, we continue our efforts to enhance international engagement, strengthen the city's economy, and prioritize sustainable development. Having completed the Destination's Tourism Carrying Capacity Study, we are using this valuable tool to move forward with the next step: creating the Sustainable Tourism Observatory. Every action we take focuses primarily on improving the quality of life of Athenian residents."
Ioannis Georgizas, CEO of Develop Athens, notes: "The 10th anniversary of this premier tourism meeting centred on Athens, led us to decide on a substantial rebranding. The goal is for this international event to reflect our vision for our city as a modern, sustainable, and inclusive destination, holistically highlighting the outreach work through This is Athens, which represents the city's tourism brand."
Comprehensive Program with B2B Meetings
The event marks its tenth anniversary by evolving into a dynamic gathering renamed "This is Athens Agora". In its new edition, the event is going “green” and includes a full program combining B2B meetings and discussions on contemporary tourism topics and trends, along with a social program highlighting Athens' authentic experience. The aim is to showcase the City of Athens' complete outreach work for the destination, including initiatives such as This is Athens Film Office and This is Athens – City Festival, the city's largest festival featuring hundreds of cultural and entertainment events throughout the year.
This is Athens Agora will secure high-level buyers from Europe, North America, and India for Greek participants, aiming to boost both Athens' conference tourism and leisure tourism. Notably, while Athens-based businesses are the primary participants, tourism businesses from the rest of Greece can also participate.
The event expects to welcome more than 120 Greek businesses and tourism organizations, along with over 90 representatives from international tourism enterprises, including foreign journalists.
This is Athens - Agora encourages broader networking and business opportunities. During B2B meetings, Greek tourism businesses will have the opportunity to connect with targeted international buyers, while additional networking opportunities will be offered throughout the event.
During the two-day event, Greek and international industry leaders will share their views on major tourism and culture topics, with Athens at the center of attention, while specially designed events will showcase modern Athens through authentic experiences.
