This is Athens City Festival: Over 50,000 people participated in 100+ events in May

Over 50,000 Athenians and visitors took part in more than 100 events of the This is Athens City Festival, which was organized by the City of Athens during May 1-31.

After two challenging years, the City of Athens organized its first spring festival for residents and visitors alike.

The festival included over 100 events such as concerts, screenings, parties, exhibitions, lectures and guided tours that were held in parks, streets, museums and open spaces in Athens.

“The aim of the This is Athens City Festival, which was originally scheduled to take place in March 2021 but was postponed twice due to the coronavirus pandemic, was to promote Athens as a destination through a large cultural festival that could attract visitors. The pandemic changed, not only the festival’s dates, but also our way of thinking. It is not only visitors that wish to discover Athens. After two years of Covid-19, we've realized that the city’s residents desire to re-discover their city, and this is also confirmed by the large number of people that participated in the events, exceeding our expectations,” Athens Development and Destination Management Agency (ADDMA) CEO Vagelis Vlachos said.

“We are really happy that the This is Athens City Festival was ‘embraced’ by Athenians and visitors. The most important thing of all is that we’ve managed to organize a celebration open to all, in every neighborhood of Athens. We are confident that the festival will return even better in 2023,” he added.
